In this study, the tensile and flexural behavior of epoxy-matrix hybrid composites reinforced with glass fibers and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) fibers was investigated. In the first step, PMMA fibers were fabricated by the electrospinning method. Then, these fibers were placed in different layers, in a hybrid form, between the layers of glass fibers. After fabricating the composite by the hand lay-up method, flexural and tensile tests were performed. Also, field emission scanning microscopy analysis was used to examine the electrospun fibers and the fracture surface of the hybrid composites in order to identify the failure mechanisms. Among hybrid composites, the highest flexural strength and strain were observed in the composite containing two layers of electrospun PMMA fibers. Also, the highest flexural modulus was observed in the composite containing one layer of electrospun fibers. The tensile test results showed that the hybrid composite containing one layer of electrospun fibers had the highest tensile strength, elastic modulus, and absorbed energy compared with the other hybrid composites. With increasing the number of electrospun fiber layers, these properties showed a decreasing trend. Microscopic studies showed that the weak adhesion of electrospun fibers to the epoxy matrix and the brittle fracture of these can be among the effective factors in the reduction of mechanical properties under tensile testing
